Preview: Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W Power Supply Unit

Did you notice that recently white theme has become a popular trend at least in the world of PC hardware? For instance, ASUS and MSI have introduced their black and white themed motherboards, while GALAX’s Hall of Fame graphics cards for years have been decked with signature pure white colour cooler and PCB. Seasonic is no exception. They also jumped on the bandwagon by introducing the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W power supply unit, which comes with a snow white housing.

The Silent Snow 1050W is the only Snow Silent series of PSU on the market currently. So far we haven’t heard of any news from Seasonic that they will release other capacities of Snow Silent PSU. Of course we are looking forward for higher capacities such as 1200W, 1500W and so on.

Recently Seasonic is kind enough to sponsor us one unit of the Silent Snow 1050W PSU for our Vector Desk build project, which is based around black and white theme. So we would like to take this good opportunity to thank Seasonic for their generous support. Today we are going to give you a quick preview of the Seasonic Silent Snow 1050W PSU.

Unboxing

The Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is delivered in a white retail packaging, with a small picture of the product alongside product name located on the bottom right. You can also see the silver Seasonic logo printed on the top left of the box and capacity of the PSU on the top right.

Seasonic explains special features of the PSU, which include the ultra high efficiency, 80 PLUS Platinum certification, patented DC Connector Panel with integrated voltage regulation module, dual copper bus bars, ultra tight voltage regulation, Seasonic hybrid silent fan control and 120mm fluid dynamic bearing fan system. On top right of the box you can see the tagline of “Green Innovation Powers Your Life”, which showed that Seasonic is serious in pushing for greener technology.

On one side of the box, you will find the full technical specifications of the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W alongside serial number and bar code.

Removing the outer box will find you another white box.  Unboxing the inner box reveals the owner’s manual in the form of a booklet and a small box containing the power cables. The PSU is well protected between two thick foams to prevent damage during transportation.

The Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is protected inside a white fabric bag.

When it comes to non-documentation accessories package, Seasonic include nine Seasonic branded felt ties, some black cable ties and the Seasonic metal case badge. There are also some screws for mounting.

The ATX 24-pin power cables is sleeved in all black colour, while the rest of the cables come in flat ribbon type. I personally love this flat ribbon style because it really helps me in terms of cable management. I can easily route bunch of cables under the motherboard tray and it looks neat and clean. In summary, Seasonic include these amount of cables in the package:

There are a total of 14 SATA power cables provided, for those have many storage devices in their system. Besides that, Seasonic also provide a total of eight 6+2 pin PCIe cables to supply power for multi GPU setup.

Now let’s take a look at the power supply unit itself. The Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W features a white housing, with the product name imprinted in black and silver accents. Not to forget the big “S” lettering on the right side to denote the Snow Silent series. The paint quality is excellent.

According to the specifications, the Snow Silent 1050W comes in a dimension of 190mm (L) x 150mm (W) x 86mm (H). Since it is fully modular you won’t see any power cables coming out from the power supply unit. On top of the power supply you can see a large milky white fan behind the grill.

The fan measures 12cm and according to Seasonic, it is manufactured by Ong Hua HA1225H12F-Z. It features Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) design so you can expect it to have a longer life span and lower noise level.

The other side of the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is vented to aid heat dissipation. You will find a power connector and an ON/OFF switch button.

The other end of the power supply provide three rows of power connectors, which include the motherboard connectors, CPU and PCI-e connectors as well as SATA and Molex connectors. You can also see a unique fan control switch on the top right side. This fan control switch offers user to choose between normal and ‘hybrid’ mode.

So we’ve decided to install the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W power supply into our Vector Desk build. You might want to check out the build log for more details.

Thoughts & Conclusions

At first glance the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W looks sleek with its white housing and milky white fan. In terms of build quality, it is very solid. The paint quality is excellent and the power cables provided are high grade.  Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is equipped with a 120cm fan featuring Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) design for longer life span and lower noise emission. Measuring 190mm (L) x 150mm (W) x 86mm (H), this power supply fits well inside any modern chassis in the market.

Although the Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is yet to be spotted in Malaysia’s market but a quick check at Newegg e-tailer it is found that the power supply is going for $ 229.99 USD, which is around RM 850 in Ringgit Malaysia. Of course we are looking forward for its availability in the local market soon.
